Fireplace is lifesaver when heater stops working

Thank God for a fireplace

Our heater could not have gone out at a worse time. We had the kids and grandkids all over for the holidays. It had taken a bit of shuffling but we had a place for everyone to sleep. The adults each got a room and the kids all slept on the floor in sleeping bags in the living room. The first day was very chaotic with 6 kids running around plus 4 more adults in the house. We had just finished breakfast when we noticed that it was getting cold in the house. I adjusted the thermostat and then we all went out and had some fun. We didn’t get back to the house until after dinner. I was ready to relax and warm up a bit in a warm house. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. It was freezing cold in the house. The heater wasn’t working at all. I quickly called up our heating company but they said it would be 4 days before they could send someone out. What to do? I had a house full of family. Thankfully we have a fireplace that we almost never use. I used what wood we did have and got it going. Then my son and I went out and got more wood while the house warmed up. We also picked up a few space heaters for the bedrooms. I don’t think we will end up needing those space heaters. The house was nice and warm by the time we got back. Thank God for a fireplace. We really should use this fireplace more often. It is very nice and lets off a very seasonal glow.
