No point in putting away space heaters, warmth won’t last

Sometimes I’m pretty sure that I’m not right in the head.

Especially when I make the same mistakes over and over again.

Every calendar year I feel like I fall for the same universal joke. I don’t know when I am going to catch on and finally cut out all the disappointment that I bring on myself. However, for the past 25 years or so I have had the same idiotic enthusiasm every spring when we first get a few days of warm air. After a long, frigid winter there will inevitably be a few days when the outdoor air temperature becomes unseasonably warm around March. Out of nowhere, the outdoor climate will take a turn for warmer days. The fresh, warm air that comes blowing through the region always makes me think that a solid spring is on its way. Hurray! Surely, our cold days are over and I can look forward to lower energy bills and outdoor comfort. That’s right about when I power down the forced air furnace and call my heating, cooling, and ventilation technician for a professional heating, cooling, and ventilation inspection on the air conditioning unit. It’s also when I pack up all my space heaters and throw them into the attic. About a week later, you’ll find me digging all of those portable heating devices back out of storage when the outdoor air temperature returns to ice cold normalcy and the house is freezing. I won’t want to use the recently-serviced furnace, so I’ll need those damn portable heating devices back at my cold feet again. And I’ll do it all over again next year.
