I’ve worked at the front desk of a retirement home for years.
- I truthfully care about it here.
I’ve l received so much about the residents and many of the stereotypes about elderly people simply aren’t true for the most part. It genuinely can be hurtful to listen to stereotypes! My residents are always complaining and asking questions about the air conditioning and heater system, though! They are actually sad about the temperature of the retirement home sometimes. They do not like it to be too cold! When your bones lose mass, you have an increased likelihood of developing arthritis. They all need to have hot and cold temperatures to maintain homeostasis. I l received info about programmable control units from a friend, and mentioned it to my manager. Since the residents correctly follow the same patterns throughout the day, it would be worth having a control device that we can automatically program to change over to certain hot and cold temperatures. The residents generally want it a little bit warmer at night, and sometimes I forget to adjust the control devices with all of the other closing duties I have; All of us decided to just give it a try, though. The temperature control device has been a huge hit! The residents raved over how sleek and new it looked. In their old home, most of them had dial control units. It is always so funny to see how they all come together to look in awe at new stuff! They’re amazed by the smallest changes that happen. It’s a good reminder to me to appreciate small things.
